Bill Bryson: A Short History of Nearly Everything

What a brilliant book! Very similar to Richard Dawkins's "The Greatest Show on Earth", but is a considerably lighter and more entertaining read. Bill purposefully does not discuss creationism, thus hopefully making this book acceptable to a much wider audience, including religious people.

We would highly recommend it to anyone who has even a slightest interest in how we got here and where we are possibly heading. Despite covering most of the topics discussed in this book back in high school, we still managed to pick up a considerable number of new ideas and historical facts.
